Five ways to move forward.

A consultation for a specific problem, a clinic at your own yard, a lecture for your association or a day of depth on a single subject. And for organisations: research and welfare advice.

01 — Individual

Behaviour consultation

For horses with behavioural problems that the usual approach does not resolve.

The consultation takes place where the horse lives and works. We go through the history, look at housing, feeding, herd and work, and observe the behaviour itself. We then explain what we see, what the probable cause is, and what needs to change.

Where a medical cause is likely, we refer you on or work together with your vet. Behaviour and health do not come separately.

For example with

  • Aggression towards people or other horses
  • Fear of loading, grooming, saddling or the farrier
  • Stereotypical behaviour such as weaving or crib-biting
  • Tension or withdrawal within the herd

You receive

  • An analysis of the behaviour and its context
  • A concrete plan with priorities and sequence
  • An explanation you can pass on to the yard yourself
  • Arrangements for follow-up where needed
02 — On location

Clinics

Practical half-day or full-day sessions at your yard, with your horses and your questions as the starting point.

A clinic combines short, clear theory with looking directly at what is in front of you. Participants learn to recognise and interpret behaviour — and usually notice within half a day that they are seeing things they previously overlooked.

Group size, subject and format are agreed in advance. Suitable for livery yards, associations, training providers and groups of enthusiastic owners.

Format

Half or full day, theory and practice alternating.

Location

At your yard, with the horses that live there.

Group

By arrangement, matched to space and subject.

03 — Knowledge transfer

Lectures

Clear presentations on equine behaviour and welfare for associations, training providers, businesses and conferences.

Science is only useful once it can be followed. An Equus lecture brings current insights on behaviour, herd life, learning and welfare back to something your audience recognises from their own practice — including the uncomfortable conclusions.

Subject, length and depth are matched to your audience: from an evening lecture for members to a contribution at a professional conference.

04 — In depth

Masterclasses

One-day courses with both theoretical and practical information on one specific subject.

A masterclass goes deeper where a lecture stops. One theme, a full day, with room for discussion, observation and practice. Intended for those who work with horses professionally, or for owners who are serious about going further.

Format

  • One day, one subject
  • Theory and practice in a single programme
  • Limited group, plenty of room for questions

Themes around

  • Equine behaviour and communication
  • Herd life and social structures
  • Welfare, housing and management

05 — For organisations

Scientific research & advice

Research into behaviour and welfare, and independent advice on policy, housing and operations.

For organisations, businesses and institutions that want to know whether their practice holds up against the current state of the science. Think of welfare assessments, research into herd composition and housing, or substantiating choices in policy and protocols.

Collaboration with research institutions and other specialists is possible. Get in touch to explore the question.

Frequently asked questions

Not seeing your question? Do ask — a short email is enough.

Yes. Consultations and clinics take place on location throughout the Netherlands; Belgium and beyond by arrangement. Travel time and costs are agreed in advance, so there are never any surprises.

That depends on the question. Allow for half a day on site: time for the intake, unhurried observation and a thorough discussion. Complex situations sometimes call for a follow-up visit.

Often, yes. Pain and underlying medical problems regularly show themselves as behaviour. If there is reason to suspect this, we advise veterinary examination before continuing with a behavioural programme.

Because the scope differs per question, you receive a tailored quote in advance. Briefly describe the situation and the location in your enquiry and you will get a clear price.

Yes. Lectures, clinics and masterclasses can be given in Dutch or in English. State your preference with your enquiry.
